WHY WORK WITH QUANTS

WHAT LUKE SAYS

I was welcomed into the Quants surveying team in 2016 and took up a role on a landmark project at the BBC Television centre.

I studied and practiced the electrical profession for 11years before making the decision to move into the commercial world where Quants have supported me in every way.

Quants have ensured the correct training, guidance and education was available to enable both my mechanical and commercial knowledge to develop while on the project and to achieve my degree.

Three years later and in 2019 my daily activities have changed due to my learning & progress in the role. I am now working on  1-3 Grosvenor square (Mayfair) which is currently being constructed into residential units, a restaurant and a spa located in the basement. My role now has now evolved into that of a M&E Quantity Surveyor working alongside the Commercial Manager and Engineering team

My advice for anyone who may be thinking of becoming a quantity surveyor / commercial manager even if at a later point in life is, the fact that we are all living much longer and subsequently working until much later in our life, bringing to light the possibility that for someone like me in my late twenties could well have another 45+ years of work ahead of them.

As a result, career changes later in life are becoming far more prevalent in today's society. The distinct shortage of Quantity Surveyors in today's construction industry is widely reported making this an ideal job to consider if changing career direction is an option for you. Changing careers completely is a brave move. Knowing that you are making the right decision is extremely hard, especially when you throw family responsibilities into the mix as I did. Quants have immensely contributed towards making the whole process a more efficient, enjoyable but structured journey in which I feel privilege to be a part of the Quants business and hope to continue on for many years to come.
